Session singer Clare Torry was called into Abbey Road one Sunday night in 1973 to improvise over an instrumental Pink Floyd was working on. They told her to think about death and use no words. She did three takes, decided she'd been useless, and went home. The performance became "The Great Gig in the Sky." She was paid £30. Thirty-one years later she sued the band for a songwriting credit and won.
