During the climactic attic scene in Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds, Tippi Hedren had been assured that mechanical birds would be used. On the day of filming, Hitchcock instead had trainers throw live gulls and ravens at her for five days straight. One bird slashed her lower eyelid. On the last day she collapsed and was placed under medical care for a week. Hitchcock used roughly one minute of the footage.
