In a 1994 Caribbean Cup qualifier, a bizarre rule stated that any goal scored in extra time would count double. Barbados needed to beat Grenada by two goals to advance. They were winning 2-1 with minutes left, which wasn't enough. So Barbados deliberately scored an own goal to force extra time, reasoning they could score a double-value goal there. Grenada, realizing what was happening, then tried to score an own goal themselves to make it 3-2 and eliminate Barbados. The final minutes descended into chaos, with Barbados defending both goals simultaneously to prevent anyone from scoring. It worked. The game went to extra time, Barbados scored, and the double-value goal put them through. The rule was never used again.
