Sylvester Stallone was so broke he had $106 in his bank account when he wrote the script for Rocky in three days. Studios offered up to $360,000 for it, but every offer came with the same condition: a real star would play Rocky. Stallone refused every time. Before getting his deal, he'd been so broke he had to sell his beloved bull mastiff Butkus to a stranger outside a 7-Eleven for $40 because he couldn't afford dog food. Once he finally got his paycheck for starring in Rocky himself, he tracked the buyer down and bought Butkus back for $15,000. The dog appears in the movie, credited as Butkus Stallone. Rocky won Best Picture.
